Start with the operator’s requirements.
Amtrak accepts qualifying standard vehicles, extended vehicles and two-wheeled motorcycles. Special and modified vehicles need individual checks. Measure including equipment that affects the total size.
Use the current official requirements to verify your specific vehicle rather than relying on its model name alone.

Before vehicle handover.
- Prepare an overnight bag with medication, chargers and personal essentials.
- Keep valuables and important documents with you.
- Check roof and rear-rack requirements with the operator.
- Follow the operator’s vehicle preparation instructions.
- Plan for the check-in deadline that applies to your vehicle.
